10 Fantastic Facts About Lily of the Desert

At Lily, we’re always finding new ways to grow and adapt for our customers. That’s why we’ve spent 50 incredible years producing high-quality natural products and processes to help support millions of people around the world. So, what makes Lily so unique?

1. We Have 50 Years in the Natural Products Field

Headquartered in the heartland of Texas, Lily of the Desert has proudly made a name for itself in the natural products field for 50 years. What started as an aloe brand has grown into much more, as our company continues to evolve and promote holistic wellness.

2. Don Lovelace Founded LOTD on Science & Compassion

In 1977, our founder, Don Lovelace, opened his first farm in Mercedes, Texas. His dedication to quality, science, and compassion has made Lily of the Desert the powerhouse it is today. With Don’s guidance, we were able to formulate a preservative-free aloe vera juice that provides all the benefits of organic aloe vera juice, but without the bitter flavor.

3. One of the Largest Organic Growers & Processors of Aloe

Twenty years later in 1997, Lily of the Desert became one of the largest organic growers and processors of Aloe vera. Our quality assurance methods prove that we are one of the largest growers, processors, and manufacturers of aloe vera products.

4. Among the First to Decolorize/Filter Aloin Content

Aloin is a bitter compound that naturally occurs in the aloe vera plant. In high doses, aloin can actually be toxic. We were among the first brands to decolorize and filter the aloin content to less than 1 part per million within our aloe products to better our customer’s health.

5. Among the First to Add “Whole Leaf” Options in Aloe Products

Lily was also among the first to offer “Whole Leaf” options in aloe vera products. This process uses the plant’s complete leaf, including the outer rind, in the production. Inversely, the Inner Fillet options only contain the inner gel-like portion of the leaf. Many of the beneficial polysaccharides are actually located in the outer rind.

6. First to Make a USDA Organic, Preservative-Free Aloe Juice

As some customers prefer products that don’t contain preservatives, we were the first to make a USDA organic, preservative-free Aloe vera juice. While the health benefits are the same for both products, the preservative-free version has a milder taste for more sensitive palates.

7. The First to Focus on Aloe Polysaccharides

We pride ourselves on backing our claims with science, and Lily was among the first to have its products & manufacturing be expertly reviewed in clinical studies. Our motto is “retaining the quality that nature created,” and one of the best ways we honor that is through our very own patent-pending Aloesorb process. Made from pure aloe vera, Aloesorb works to enhance the natural benefits of aloe, boost nutrient absorption rates, and increase white blood cell counts.

8. Began A Wellness-Oriented Nutraceuticals Division

In 2009, Lily launched its Nutraceutical Division with products like organic coconut oil and EcoDrink Naturals, a grab-and-go beverage mix that offers vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Drinking EcoDrink can ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs to maintain good health.

9. First Aloe Product to Be GRAS Certified from Expert Research Panel

In order to maintain the best quality possible, each of our products, processes, and facilities are put through rigorous tests by an independent panel of expert researchers. We are proud to be the first to create aloe products that are GRAS (generally recognized as safe) certified and USDA approved.

10. Began Formulating Aloe-Infused Hand Sanitizer

When it comes to high-touch situations, you need high-quality ingredients to keep germs at bay. That’s where Lily’s aloe-based hand sanitizer comes into play. In 2020, we created a moisturizing hand sanitizer with our organically-grown aloe to help skin stay germ-free without drying it out.
