History of Aloe - Lily of the Desert

The History of Aloe Vera

There’s a reason aloe vera is one of history’s favorite super plants!

For thousands of years, aloe has been celebrated as a source of health and wellness in almost every culture on earth. We may have helped perfect the process, but aloe has played a significant role in the societies of the past.

Ancient Chinese and Egyptian civilizations used aloe vera to soothe burns, treat wounds, and reduce fevers. Legends also report that upon the advice of Aristotle, Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra to secure supplies of aloe vera to help wounded soldiers. Cleopatra even used aloe in her daily skin routine!

Even after all these years, aloe continues to be a staple in maintaining good health.

Did You Know?

Although it may look like a cactus, aloe vera is actually an herb with succulent features.

There are over 20 varieties of aloe vera on earth. The most common commercially-grown and beneficial variety is barbadensis Miller - the one we use!

Aloe vera is grown commercially for the natural health and moisturizing benefits found inside its leaves. We harness those same benefits through our proprietary processes.

An adult aloe vera plant reaches maturity at 3-4 years and can reach a height of 30 inches with up to 21 leaves.

The aloe vera plant is one of the most studied herbs in the natural products category.

Aloe vera contains over 200 biologically active, naturally-occurring constituents including polysaccharides, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, and minerals.

When properly ingested, aloe’s essential nutrients can help with improved absorption rates, supported digestive health, strengthened immunity, reduced nitrates, and more.
