Our latest recipe is just in time for the Fall season! Not only does it taste sweet like Autumn, but the ingredients are jam-packed with vitamins and nutrients to give your immune system a much-needed wake up call during the holidays. Without further ado, here’s the Lily Sweet Potato & Orange Immune-Supporter Smoothie!
Taste the Immune Health Benefits
Sweet potatoes with orange flesh are a major source of natural beta-carotene, which the body can convert to Vitamin A. This is important because Vitamin A is a crucial part of an optimally-functioning immune system.
Likewise, orange juice can help support a healthy immune system with its high Vitamin C content. Vitamin C protects and helps promote the production of immune cells, which armor up against possible infection or contamination.
Bananas are prebiotic foods which aid gut health. They also contain Vitamin B6, which is essential to the speed and effectiveness of our immune response. Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants that benefit your gut health which in turn allows the body’s immune system to function properly.
Turmeric is a natural way of “increasing the immunomodulating capacity” within the body. In other words, turmeric helps regulate the immune system. Don’t say we never taught you anything!
Ginger provides anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects in the body. Almond Milk contains Vitamins A, D, and E, which provide enhanced protection for fighting off illness. Cinnamon has lots of antioxidants which help lower inflammation, and adds a certain spice to bring the whole thing together.
A few ounces of Lily of the Desert’s Aloe Vera Inner Fillet has over 200 biologically-active components like vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, and polysaccharides. Plus with Aloesorb found in our products, the aloe vera can help support the nutrient absorption of these ingredients!
And our final ingredient… Ice! Well, ice provides some hydration and keeps us cool.
Lily’s Sweet Potato & Orange Immune Supporter Smoothie Ingredients
- 1 Cup of Sweet Potato Puree (Use one large Sweet Potato)
- 1 Ripe Banana in Slices
- ¼ Teaspoon of Turmeric, Cinnamon, and Ginger
- ½ Tablespoon of Chia Seeds
- ¾ Cup of Unsweetened Almond Milk (Substitute Oat, Cashew Milk for preference)
- 1 Large Handful of Ice
- 2 Tablespoons of Lily’s Aloe Vera Inner Fillet
- ¼ Cup of Orange Juice
- 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter (Optional)
How To Prepare Your Smoothie
Bake your large sweet potato in the oven at 400 degrees for ~25 minutes until soft. Split your sweet potato in half lengthwise, lightly cover in oil, and place on a tin-foiled baking sheet.
If you want to steam your sweet potato, make sure it is steamed long enough to be easily mashed by fork. Will take roughly 10 minutes.
Cool your sweet potato prior to adding it to the blender.
Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until the mixture is smooth.
Taste your smoothie and adjust ingredients to taste. For instance, add more banana or orange juice to increase sweetness. Add more ice for a thicker consistency. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon as a garnish on top.
Enjoy!
