Why Aloe & Mocktails Work Well Together

For those looking to eliminate toxins in their life or even if you are “sober curious”, avoiding or limiting alcohol usage can be a smart choice. Consuming alcohol can be hard on the liver, known as one of the body’s key detoxification organs, which can cause it to lose functionality.

When you make a mocktail with fresh, wholesome ingredients, you’re not only limiting the toxins you put in your body, but you’re also helping the body with its natural detoxification process. The ingredients in this mocktail can help the body eliminate toxins more effectively, especially with the addition of aloe vera.

Aloe helps support nutrient absorption and reduce ammonia and nitrates, which are toxic byproducts of metabolism. Science-backed research has shown that Lily of the Desert products with Aloesorb showed a decrease of toxic levels of nitrates in the body, and also demonstrated support of the metabolism of nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • 12 Mint Leaves
  • 6 Blackberries
  • 1 Cup Ice Cubes
  • 1/2 Cup Club Soda of Choice
  • 1/2 Lime (Cut & Sectioned)
  • 4 Tablespoons Lily of the Desert Pres. Free Whole Leaf Aloe
  • 2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar

Directions:

Muddle 12 mint leaves, 4 blackberries, and 1 wedge of lime in the bottom of a sturdy glass. A highball, cocktail, or even large drinking glass will work. If you don’t have a muddler, you can use a hard object like a wooden spoon to release the juices, aromas, and oils of what you’re muddling.

Add the 2 Tablespoons of granulated sugar and the rest of the lime to the glass. Mash it all up to mix the ingredients thoroughly. If you don’t want to use granulated sugar, you can use an alternative sweetener like stevia, monk fruit, agave syrup, or honey. The flavor profile will be changed slightly.

Measure out 4 tablespoons (2 oz.) of the Lily of the Desert Preservative Free Whole Leaf Aloe Vera. Add to the mixture and stir gently to incorporate into the ingredients. For a stronger flavor, you can allow the mixture to sit for 15-30 minutes to infuse the flavor into the aloe vera.

The last step is to fill the glass with ice and top off with the club soda or seltzer water. Garnish with the leftover blackberries if desired, and enjoy!

The Benefits of Aloe Vera

Did you know the majority of vitamins and minerals from the foods we eat get lost during the digestion process? Aloe vera can help support the amount of nutrients that our bodies absorb, which in turn supports the rest of our system.

And that’s not even the half of it. By consuming good quality aloe vera, you can reap the many health benefits of balanced digestion, antioxidant and immune support, and increased overall nutrient absorption. Plus, it’s loaded with active compounds like vitamins, enzymes, and amino acids that help keep the body functioning properly.

Aloe vera has a pretty neutral flavor profile, which makes it excellent for mixing into a beverage or smoothie. However, for those with very sensitive taste buds, we recommend the preservative free aloe products, as they have a milder taste.
