Refresh Yourself

Apple Refresher JuiceThat’s right, you heard me. Just pause for a moment to take inventory. Have you been over-doing it in the Be Everywhere At Once Department lately? And what happened to that much-needed trip to the lake that you promised yourself you were going to take? After all, summertime should be kick-back-for-a-week vacationtime, right? Unfortunately, the day to day grind can get in the way of a little break during the hot months — we’re just not twelve years old anymore. Well, before you crash face first into an all out exhaustion coma, take some time out to recharge yourself with our invigorating Apple Refresher Juice.

This recipe couldn’t be easier: mix one part quality pineapple juice to one part quality apple juice, then stir in 2 tablespoons of Lily of the Desert’s Aloe Vera juice and serve over ice. With the help of our signature all-aloe ingredient, Aloesorb, our aloe products have been clinically proven to bump vitamin absorption by up to 2000%. This means your body will soak up more vitamin C, which means you’re in for one heckuva pick-me-up.

Maybe a couple of jet skis and an uninterrupted reading of War and Peace are in your near future; maybe they’re not. Regardless, remember to take some time to refresh yourself with this summer getaway in a glass.

Making Your Workout Work For YOU

Those extra hours in kickboxing class are really starting to pay off. And that three-mile run you knocked out last night before dinner made you feel like a champ. It’s not always easy to find time for your workouts, but boy, does it pay off in the end!

When it comes to staying healthy, daily exercise is just as important as eating the right foods. This is especially true during the hour or so after you’ve finished working out, because this is when you need to replenish spent energy by eating foods high in fiber and protein. It is for the days that you are determined to push every physical boundary you have that we created this nutritious smoothie recipe…

Of course, we always like to start with the beloved aloe vera plant, because it naturally contains over 200 biologically-active nutrients that help keep our body healthy. For this recipe, we’ll be using Lily of the Desert’s Aloe Vera Gel. It’s amplified with Aloesorb, which has been clinically proven to help increase supplement absorption by 2000%! Next, we throw in a banana (an excellent source of vitamin B and dietary fiber), strawberries (which, besides making everything taste better, are high in vitamin C), and finally, some electrolyte-rich coconut water. (For added protein and fiber, feel free bring a serving of chia seeds to the party.)

Mix all ingredients in a blender with ice until smooth. The combination of fresh, nutrient-packed fruits and health-boosting Aloesorb helps maximize the efforts you put into your workouts. Drink to your health!

Offensively Speaking

Sure you have heard of “antioxidants” and “free radicals,” but have you ever wondered what they really mean in regards to good health?  The terms may make you think of political movements and war protests, but that’s okay. When it comes to your health, a good defense is the best offense!

Your body has many natural, built-in defenses, and antioxidants happen to be one of the most important. When we eat, our bodies also take in oxygen to help with digestion…  but that oxygen can lead to the development of free radicals that keep our bodies from getting the nutrients we need to stay healthy. This is why antioxidants are so important!

Our bodies produce antioxidants on their own, but they need additional support from things like our diet and supplements.  Luckily, some of your favorite fruits and veggies are loaded with powerful antioxidants. Though, maybe what you didn’t know is that aloe vera also naturally contains free radical-fighting antioxidants. And of course, at Lily of the Desert, we do you one better: we add Aloesorb — (our all-aloe, nutrient-rich powerhouse ingredient) — to all of our products.  This means that everything we make is clinically proven to enhance antioxidants by 40% — and that’s just from a 2 oz. serving!

It is out of respect for those feisty, oxidation-fighting molecules that we came up with this chock-full-o’-antioxidants smoothie recipe just for you. It’s so good it’ll make you want to conquer your own battles today!

Antioxidant Smoothie

Energy Smoothie

Summertime is back, and that means fresh produce at the farmer’s market as far as the eye can see! Of course it also means hot, sticky days and nights, and feeling like you want to do nothing but sit inside with the A/C cranked up … (errands? What errands?) But luckily, we’ve created a solution for that: a fresh, ice cold fruit, veggie, and aloe smoothie. (A “fru-veg-aloe,” if you will…)

Energy Smoothie

What? You’ve never thrown nutritious greens in with your fruit? Well, it’s high time you try it. Go ahead … pack in some protein by adding a handful of baby spinach or creamy avocado to your very-berry smoothie and see what happens. Adding this type of nutrient-rich fuel to your diet everyday is a fantastic way to turn your blahs into “aaahhhhhs.”

Next, we’ll add Lily of the Desert’s aloe juice or gel to the mix, because we know that aloe vera naturally contains over 200 biologically-active nutrients that help support overall good health. Even better, all of Lily’s products are amplified with Aloesorb, which has been proven to help maximize the benefits of all those delicious nutrients you’re drinking. Translation: you’ll be up off the couch and ready to go in no time.

So give yourself a head start each morning with a fresh, Aloesorb-powered smoothie. Trust me. Your body – and your To-Do list – will thank you.

A Lily treat for Dry Skin

Dry skin can be the result of many things: not drinking enough water, too much contact with hot water, or most notably, cold, dry weather.

Now the way to smooth, exfoliated skin is as easy as 1, 2 … well, actually, just 1 and 2. Using our 99% Aloe Vera Gelly on dry, damaged spots will help quickly cool and hydrate at least three epidermal layers of your skin. Plus, this recipe is simple and safe for all ages, and you can do it as often as you’d like!

Halve and core an apple (it doesn’t matter which kind).

Apply a liberal amount of Lily of the Desert’s 99% Aloe Vera Gelly to the cut side of the apple.*

Rub over knees, elbows, and heels; massage any excess gel into skin.

Enjoy the naturally-moisturized feeling aloe vera gives you!

*tip: add coarse sea salt to the mix for a little extra exfoliation power!

P.S. — Don’t forget to look for Lily of the Desert with Aloesorb on the label! You may think that all aloe products at the store are the same, but it’s just not true. Most aloe topical products at retail stores contain less than 1% – 10% aloe vera in their creams, lotions, and other body products. Studies have shown that a minimum of 30% concentration of aloe is necessary to receive the benefits of aloe. Our topical products contain up to 99% organic aloe vera, so you can feel confident about the quality of aloe you are using everyday!

Lily Lemonade

I love discovering new combinations of fruit juices to mix with my aloe vera smoothies in the morning (it’s always nice to shake things up every now and then!) Recently, we asked our customers to tell us what their favorite juices to mix with Lily of the Desert’s aloe vera products are, and to our surprise, an overwhelming amount of people said that LEMONADE was at the top of their list. Well, of course it is! Who doesn’t like cooling down with a freshly juiced and lightly sweetened glass of good ol’ fashioned lemonade?

So, here at Lily, we thought we would take that idea and kick it up a notch by creating an immune-boosting version of this tasty drink. What better way to enhance the wonderful health properties of this fruit — my favorite summer citrus, by the way — than by adding Lily of the Desert’s aloe vera juice. It is certified-organic and has been amplified with Aloesorb, which has been proven to help increase immune support by up to 16%, so you can feel even better about your summertime treat.

Check out the recipe below and let us know what you think. Maybe you have ideas about how to make it even more delicious? Feel free to experiment and make it your own. (But don’t forget to the report back with your yummy findings!)

1 C fresh lemon juice
1-2 T raw honey*
1 C ice cubes

Stir ingredients well; serve over ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint, if desired.

*tip: when possible, try using local honey to help relieve any symptoms of pollen-related, seasonal allergies.
