Immunity Tips for Back To Learning

Practicing Healthy Habits

Back to learning can come in a variety of ways this Fall, but you will also need to ensure that you are protecting your family’s immune systems. Whether they’re experiencing school in person or taking classes over Zoom, here’s some tips to keep you and your child happy and healthy for a bright new school year.

1. Social Distancing

A bit easier said than done with some kids heading back to in-person learning, but having a quick conversation with them about the importance of extra personal space this fall is going to be helpful to everyone. Air high-fives can be just as cool! The CDC recommends staying 6 feet (roughly two arms lengths) from the other people you encounter throughout your day, and kids are encouraged not to share school supplies or form groups when put in social settings.

Remember, “social distancing” doesn’t mean isolation! There are plenty of ways to socialize from within your home by using a computer or phone to chat with friends and loved ones.

2. Mask Up

It’s more important than ever to wear a mask and slow the spread of germs when out in public, especially as we go back to learning. As most agencies request medical masks be utilized by public workers, here is a handy guide to making your own mask using a full tutorial from the CDC.

Make sure you use two layers of a breathable fabric as single layers can be ineffective. You can even have the kids pick out fun fabrics for each member to show off their unique personality!

Materials Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Two 10”x6” rectangles of cotton fabric
  • Two 6” pieces of elastic (or rubber bands, string, cloth strips, or hair ties)
  • Needle and thread (or bobby pin)
  • Sewing machine (or sew by hand)

3. Wash Hands and Use Hand Sanitizer

Germs can spread when we touch our eyes, mouth, and nose after touching contaminated objects or surfaces. The CDC states you should wash your hands after coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose, using the bathroom, and many more circumstances.

If your family isn’t able to get to a sink and soap, that’s the correct time to use hand sanitizer. It’s simple to keep on your person or in your vehicle for when you are out in public. Be sure to send a bottle in the kids backpacks and remind them to reapply often.

Lily of the Desert recently launched our Hand Sanitizer made with Aloe vera. Find it in convenient 2oz, 8oz, or gallon-sized bottles that uses 70% ethyl alcohol content to effectively fight germs. It even hydrates your skin while you use it! Buy your bottle online or at our major retailers today.
